What’s the last great book you read?

The Gunslinger. Probably my favorite of all time.

What’s your favorite book no one else has heard of?

Others have heard of it, but Haxfuri by NJM Hemfry doesn’t get the love it deserves. Reminds me of a Batman with swords and a horse. It’s a great Grimdark Fantasy.

Who are your favorite writers? Are there any who aren’t as widely known as they should be, whom you’d recommend in particular?

King, Burroughs, Childs, but the one who I really enjoy is NJM Hemfry. He is the author of Haxfuri and the My Fatal Futility series. He is not well known and deserves more spotlight on his work.

What do you read when you’re working on a book? And what kind of reading do you avoid while writing?

I generally avoid reading anything other than research. I want to avoid any influences to my project.

What moves you most in a work of literature?

I enjoy the heroic journey. Characters who strive to do what is right in the face of adversity. Characters who protect others.

What genres do you especially enjoy reading?

Crime Thrillers, Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy.

Who is your favorite fictional hero or heroine?

Captain America. The original comic storylines moved me as a boy. Cap is someone always striving to do what is right. My father taught me to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves, Cap embodies this.

What kind of reader were you as a child?

I was an average reader. I enjoyed anything paranormal such as Bigfoot, UFO’s or Ghost stories. Comic book stories were also big along with anything about the Arthurian Legend.

ALAN MCGILL AUTHOR BIO

Alan McGill is the son of a third-generation coal miner from Northwestern Pennsylvania. His father moved the family to a small town closer to a job in the mines. After being bullied in school, Alan gravitated to stories about heroes who protect others and ever strive to do what is right. Heroes such as The Lone Ranger, Batman, and Captain America to name a few. Being close to his father and grandfather, Alan grew up with stories about the Coal & Iron Police, his father’s time along the Mississippi River, and life in Coal Country. All this influenced Alan’s writings and shaped his stories.

Alan is a multi-genre author writing tales of horror, romance, science fiction, fantasy, crime thrillers, and more.  Alan released his debut novel as a podcast audio drama. Alan narrated the story, added sound fx, and original music in the spirit of old radio. The show was named to Podbean’s Top 10 in Fiction Drama for 2021.

Alan continues to narrate and produce all his own work, but he also enjoys voice acting and narrating for fellow creatives.

Excerpt from A Cry in the Moon’s Light

The horses’ fidgeting worsened, and they let out puffs of air. Arca’s wide eyes watched the forest. Killian couldn’t see as clearly down the road as Arca, which made him more nervous. He also couldn’t move the locked carriage. His whinny pierced the quiet. Mi Lady turned sharply toward the forest. My gaze followed. We both saw it at the same time. Standing in the center of the road, at the edge of the forest, was a large wolf!

Excerpt from RED DOOR: A Cry in the Moon’s Light

Alessandra and Seth saw the big wolf ’s silhouette on the hill. Both swallowed hard. Seth gripped the shovel tightly; he knew that if they could see the black wolf, the beast could certainly see them. “Get on Boggs,” he whispered. “Boggs can’t outrun them,” she whispered back, unable to hide the fear in her voice. “He can get you to the church while I fight them off,” Seth whispered. “No. I’m not leaving you. I’d rather die with you than live without you!” “If we don’t do something, that may just happen,” Seth said
