Lenny the Lizard and His Green Scarf and A Colorful Balloon Ride both focus on important lessons for young readers. What inspired you to create stories that emphasize themes like sharing and learning through adventure?

Lenny the Lizard and His Green Scarf and A Colorful Balloon Ride both focus on important lessons for young readers. What inspired you to create stories that emphasize themes like sharing and learning through adventure? I was inspired to write Lenny the Lizard and His Green Scarf because I grew up around my families farm in South Carolina and I noticed how happy and joyful a little green lizard was one day and he seemed to make the other farm animals feel happy that were a pig, a random mouse running around, and I loved otters from going on a trip to the South Carolina Aquarium as a second grade student and decided to tie an otter into the story. I received a green scarf and cashmere sweater growing up that helped me to feel good when I felt down and out. A Colorful Balloon Ride was inspired off of how I learned colors in my kindergarten art class with my best friend Emily and I loved going to the County Fair growing up.
