Michael Beashel

Michael Beashel is a Sydney-born author whose Irish ancestry traces back to Millers Point in the 1860s. Growing up in Bondi and now residing in Sydney’s inner west, Beashel draws deep inspiration from the city’s evolving skyline and rich architectural history.

A former head of Asset Development for a global accommodation services company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, Beashel has left a significant mark in the construction industry. From restoring heritage landmarks like Customs House and Sydney Town Hall to managing large-scale developments in Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City, his career has provided a wealth of real-world insight into the built environment.

Beashel’s passion for construction shines through in his fiction. He masterfully blends historic detail with compelling storytelling, using Australia’s architectural landscape as both backdrop and muse. “Human shelter is an essential need,” he notes, “and I suspect people have a fascination for understanding its context and construction within their societies.”

Influenced by literary greats such as C.S. Forester, Bernard Cornwell, and Ken Follett, Beashel brings a unique voice to historical fiction. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Building) from the University of Technology Sydney and has been a committed member of Writing NSW since 2002.

Beashel has independently published nine novels under The Australian Sandstone Series. His debut, Unbound Justice, reached #4 in Amazon’s Australian Historical Fiction rankings on Australia Day. His work has been featured on ABC Nightlife, Adelaide Radio, and Artsound FM Canberra, and published in The Last Post, a national magazine for veterans.
