What inspired you to transition from biotechnology research to education and writing?

My transition from biotechnology research to education and writing was driven by a deep desire to impact lives on a more personal level. While working in biotechnology, I was fascinated by the science, but I found that my greatest passion lay in explaining complex concepts in a way that others could understand and apply. In fact, this passion was there from childhood, as I would often tutor my peers.

Teaching has allowed me to bridge the gap between knowledge and empowerment, particularly for young minds. It is my firm belief that education extends beyond the classroom—it shapes lives, builds confidence, and unlocks potential.

Writing became a natural extension of this passion. Through my books, I could reach an even broader audience, sharing not only academic insights but also personal experiences of resilience, growth, and healing. My autobiography, The Unvarnished Truth: Purpose in the Pain, was particularly pivotal in this journey, as it allowed me to merge my expertise in education with my personal story, offering hope to those facing adversity.

Ultimately, my shift from research to education and writing was about aligning my work with my purpose—to teach, uplift, and inspire.

How does your background in mental health studies influence your approach to empowerment and coaching?

My background in mental health studies is not only academic but also comes from my own personal mental health struggles. These experiences have shaped my approach to empowerment and coaching, allowing me to provide not just guidance, but deep, transformative support to those I work with.

I truly understand the intricate connection between mindset, emotions, and behavior which enables me to approach coaching with compassion, scientific insight, and practical strategies.

Rather than offering surface-level motivation, I focus on helping individuals break through mental barriers, reframe negative thought patterns, and develop resilience.

My background in mental health studies has shaped my programs, such as MindFlex: Cultivating Brain Flexibility and Emotional Control, which equips individuals with practical tools to build mental resilience and emotional stability.

Ultimately, my mental health background allows me to coach holistically thus empowering people not just to succeed, but to heal, grow, and thrive.

Can you share a defining moment that led to the creation of The Unvarnished Truth: Purpose in Pain?

The defining moment that led to the creation of The Unvarnished Truth: Purpose in Pain was born out of one of the darkest yet most transformative periods of my life. After enduring immense personal suffering, including the pain of estrangement, emotional and financial abuse, and a harrowing battle with suicidal ideation, I found myself at a crossroads—either succumb to despair or use my pain as a catalyst for growth and healing.

One pivotal moment came in the aftermath of my second suicide attempt. I remember sitting in deep reflection, realizing that if I had survived, it had to be for a reason. I had spent years searching for external validation, but in that moment, I understood that true healing had to come from within. That realization ignited a fire in me—not just to heal myself but to help others find purpose in their own pain.

As I began piecing my life back together, I felt compelled to share my story with raw honesty, without filters or pretenses—not as a tale of victimhood, but as a testament to the power of resilience, faith, and self-reclamation. Writing this book became a sacred journey of reflection and release, a way to turn my deepest wounds into a source of strength—not just for myself, but for anyone who has ever felt broken, lost, or unworthy.

The Unvarnished Truth is more than a book; it is my heart laid bare, an offering of hope to those struggling to find light in their own darkness.

What challenges did you face while writing about deeply personal experiences, and how did you overcome them?

Writing The Unvarnished Truth: Purpose in Pain was both cathartic and agonizing. Revisiting some of the most painful moments of my life—death of my Dad, estrangement from my children, emotional and financial abuse, and my struggles with suicidal ideation—forced me to relive wounds I had spent years trying to heal.

The challenge was not just in recalling these experiences but in doing so with raw honesty, without filtering or softening the truth to make it more palatable.

One of the biggest emotional hurdles was confronting shame, guilt, and fear of judgment. There were moments when I questioned whether I was exposing too much, whether sharing my story would invite scrutiny or criticism. But I reminded myself that authenticity is what gives this book its power—that by showing my scars, I was giving others permission to embrace their own healing journey.

I focused on who this book was meant to serve—those who are suffering in silence, feeling alone in their pain. That purpose gave me the strength to push through, knowing that my vulnerability could be someone else’s lifeline.

How do you balance writing across different genres, from self-help to children’s books and science education?

Each genre serves a different audience but is united by my passion for education, empowerment, and transformation. I balance them through compartmentalization and fully immersing myself in the mindset each requires.

For self-help books, I draw on introspection and personal experiences, offering vulnerability and deep reflection to guide others toward healing. Children’s books demand a shift to playfulness and imagination, crafting engaging, educational stories that resonate with young minds. Science education books require precision and clarity, making complex concepts accessible and exciting for students.

I ensure that all my writings are clear, impactful, and purpose-drive,  with the goal of uplifting and inspiring others.

What advice do you have for parents and educators in supporting neurodiverse children effectively?

Supporting neurodiverse children requires understanding, patience, and a strengths-based approach. Whether a child has ADHD, autism, or dyslexia, the key is to celebrate their uniqueness while providing the right tools for success.

For parents:

  • Embrace individuality – Focus on strengths, not comparisons.
  • Create structure with flexibility – Routine provides security, but adaptability is key.
  • Advocate for their needs – Communicate with teachers and seek necessary resources.
  • Foster confidence – Praise effort and encourage a growth mindset.

For educators:

  • Use multi-sensory teaching – Combine visual, auditory, and hands-on learning.
  • Offer flexible assessments – Explore alternatives like projects or oral presentations.
  • Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) – Support emotional regulation and social skills.
  • Encourage self-advocacy – Help students understand their learning styles and needs.

Above all, love, patience, and acceptance help neurodiverse children thrive—academically and in life.

What guidance would you give to aspiring authors looking to create impactful and authentic books?

For aspiring authors, writing impactful books requires authenticity, purpose, and persistence.

  • Write from truth – Real emotions and experiences create powerful stories.
  • Know your ‘why’ – Define your book’s purpose to stay focused and motivated.
  • Embrace vulnerability – Honest storytelling resonates deeply with readers.
