Contemporary Romance writer, Belinda is a Yorkshire-based author writing about the stories behind our relationships. Having lived a varied life with several different jobs and businesses she is a natural storyteller who loves to share those stories. There are many more to come.
She writes from the home she shares with her husband, who loves to join in the research trips and a string of foster dogs. Always creative, she loves to craft in almost any form.
Her stories explore relationships in all their levels and depth. Her romance is sensual with heat in the moments that matter.
She promises to bring you, strong women, with problems to solve and brave men to join them on their journey but always a happy ending.
You’re organizing a party. Which two authors, dead or alive, do you invite?
Milly Johnson such a great wit and Jilly Cooper, I’m sure she has a few stories to tell.
Which writers — working today do you admire most?
Samantha Towle is such a great writer and an all-round lovely person. I met her through a business event where she was a speaker.
What do you read when you’re working on a book? And what kind of reading do you avoid while writing?
That’s a hard one. I do look to avoid reading anything close to my own style when I’m writing. That means I do most of my reading when I am not writing. When I am writing, my characters and their story is filling my head. I’m not sure I have room for any other characters.
What genres do you especially enjoy reading?
I’m a romance girl through and through but it’s all the relationships not just with each other that count for me.
What kind of reader were you as a child?
Reading was something for the school holidays when I would read book after book. It was a wonderful escape. I love that I now read most days.
Where do you write?
Anywhere and everywhere. Mostly at home and in my office. But also out in my garden which I love or laid on the bed, sat in my armchair. I use a laptop or my phone and some days good old pens and paper. I like the way words flow when you have a pen in your hand. It’s a great excuse to enjoy buying more notebooks and pens.
Do you spend time with other authors?
YES! It has been one the best things about writing, there are so many wonderful other writers who always seem happy to chat and be supportive. The actual writing part I like do on my own. One local group has been really helpful and I can never thank them enough for their support.
If you are not reading or writing, how do like to spend your time?
Crafting or cooking but I guess my absolute favourite is walking the dogs. As a family, we foster working Hearing Dogs who need some space for a while. They are amazing dogs. I love them all.
Do you write one book at a time, or do you work on multiple stories at the same time?
I really wish I could be more focused. When a new idea comes up, I make notes then try to leave it at that and get back to whatever I am supposed to be working on. It’s easier said than done though. I quite like a story to have been sat around for a while, so that by the time I type Chapter One I know the beginning the middle and the end.
Do you talk about your work in progress or it a big secret until publication day?
I talk about my characters and stories all the time. It’s a bit like telling my friend what happened at work today. I’m sure they must get fed up with hearing about my characters, but I do think out loud. My family are brilliant at asking me questions though which helps with the story development.
